My name’s Richard Makin and I’m the School Night Vegan.
I’ve been exploring the world of plant-based cuisine since November 2017 when I switched from life-long vegetarian to full-time vegan! Back then I worked in street food, running London’s first artisan ice cream sandwich van, so my weekends were usually way too busy for cooking. This meant that all my school nights became vegan nights!
As a long-time foodie, I had developed some pretty good cooking skills, but turning vegan was a whole new challenge! I had to retrain myself to cook without animal products. It was a surprisingly rewarding learning curve! I’m now a food stylist and recipe developer specialising in animal-free dishes.
School Night Vegan is essentially my food journal, documenting the meals I make and the stuff I learn. I hope you enjoy!
